Response journal entry #10: END-OF-QUARTER SELF-EVALUATION

Through this quarter almost everything was according what I was expecting, which was to have a good quality course where we as a students and teacher were able to establish a positive relationship and therefore had had a good learning process.

I´m always interested to learn other cultures. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to live abroad and I was able to meet people from different part of the world, which made possible to try harder to learn as much as I could. However the topics we analyzed in class were sometimes repetitive and way too long that at the end we fell behind in some presentations.

However, this course was valuable for personal learning. All different topics we analyzed in class definitely increased our cultural awareness in order to achieve empathy and sensitivity to others. It helped also to facilitate language acquisition, as being positive, concerned about how cultures connect and change. An specific example was the intercultural activity we had at the university, acquiring cross-cultural skills, an aspect I wanted to emphasize because trying out other learning options, resisting falling back on stereo-typing and ethnocentrism, having the ability to use language appropriately and effectively in a variety of cultural contexts taking into account the assumptions, values and behaviors of different cultures.
